Vein Marking/Mapping

Vein Mapping is an ultrasound scan of the veins in one or both of your legs. This test shows the size, depth, and pathway of your veins. During Vein Mapping, the sonographer may gently draw lines on your skin to mark where certain veins are located. These markings help doctors plan treatments such as varicose vein procedures or surgeries that need healthy veins.

Vein Mapping is safe and painless. It uses sound waves to create pictures of your veins, and there is no radiation involved. You may also hear this test called a leg vein ultrasound or venous mapping, but it refers to the same scan.
