Clinical Practice
As a specialist, Prof. Koya Ayonrinde places strong emphasis on timely patient review, professional values, and accurate representation of symptoms, results, and diagnoses. He does not believe in exaggerating or diminishing clinical findings. He considers a trusting relationship, grounded in respect and clear communication with the patient, referring doctor, and other clinicians, essential for effective therapeutic care. His approach includes maintaining confidentiality and privacy, demonstrating empathy, and supporting informed decision‑making.
Prof. Ayonrinde also finds that providing written information about relevant conditions helps patients become active and informed participants in their own health. He works collaboratively with patients, prioritising their well‑being, what matters to them (alongside the priorities of the referring doctor), their dignity, and the delivery of effective, evidence‑based care. He believes that a comprehensive approach to the assessment and management of liver disease—incorporating interdisciplinary input when appropriate—offers significant benefit to patients.
Background & Training
Prof. Koya Ayonrinde graduated in medicine from The University of Western Australia (UWA) and subsequently obtained his specialist qualifications in gastroenterology and hepatology through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
