Background & Training

Dr Niranjan Ananda Setty is Respiratory Physician with more than a decade of diverse international experience. His training spans major tertiary centres, and includes formal fellowships in interventional pulmonology, complex airways and asthma, and ongoing sleep medicine. He holds specialist qualifications from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP UK) and the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (EDIC).

Niranjan currently works as a Respiratory Consultant and Higher Degree Research Fellow at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where he combines clinical practice with research in pleural medicine. Additionally, he runs a dedicated Rare Lung Disease Clinic, with a focus on cystic lung disorders.

His previous roles include serving as an Interventional Pulmonology Fellow and an Asthma & Airways Fellow. These strengthened his expertise in lung cancer diagnostics, pleural procedures, Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), bronchial thermoplasty, endobronchial valves, and multidisciplinary cancer care pathways. He has also held consultant positions in the UK with involvement in lung cancer, infection, and nodule clinics.

Beyond clinical work, Niranjan has an active research portfolio and is involved in clinical trials, has served as principal and co-investigator in multi-centre projects, and maintains strong engagement with education, audit, and clinical governance.

Outside of medicine, he values time with family and regularly cycles and hikes, which helps him maintain wellbeing and balance alongside his professional commitments.
