Dr Shivanthi Senaratne
Dr Shivanthi Senaratne completed her MBBS in Sri Lanka, after which she worked in general medicine in Fiji and in Australia. She subsequently undertook her postgraduate studies at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH), receiving her FRACP in 2008. She continues to work at SCGH as a General Physician.
In 2008, Dr Shivanthi joined Hollywood Hospital as a General Physician and she treats all adult patients requiring acute medical care and consults both general medicine inpatient and outpatients.
Dr Senaratne believes, "once on the decline, general medicine is regaining its relevance. As patients get older, they encounter more complex medical problems. In these cases, having input from a specialist in general medicine can be important, as a general physician specialist has their eye on the whole situation and can offer an integrated and holistic assessment and course of treatment for a patient".
"In addition, because I have trained and worked for more than 20 years in many countries, I have experience with many medical conditions that we don’t see often in Australia, such as infectious diseases. I bring broad experience to my role."
Dr Shivanthi also works in obstetric medicine. As part of this focus, she works in a clinic in Joondalup and King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, through which she is also engaged in research in obstetric medicine.
