Dr David Chieng
David is a dedicated and compassionate cardiologist who believes in providing individualized and holistic cardiology care using the latest in evidence-based guidelines. He holds a public appointment as a consultant cardiologist at the Alfred Hospital (voted best hospital in Victoria, Newsweek 2022). He also admits patients to Mulgrave Private Hospital, SJOG Berwick, and Epworth Richmond. David completed his medical degree through the University of Western Australia with a SWANS scholarship, winning multiple academic prizes during his training. He completed his cardiology advanced training in Perth, followed by a 4-year clinical fellowship training in electrophysiology and pacing at the Alfred Hospital and
Royal Melbourne Hospital. He has been recognized by his supervisors, peers and patients for his
outstanding patient care by being awarded the prestigious Goatcher Clarke Royal Perth Hospital Intern of the Year Award (2011) and the St John of God Subiaco Hospital Pomegranate Award (2015).
He completed his PhD in 2022 investigating novel ablation techniques and approaches in atrial fibrillation with the support of the prestigious combined NHMRC/NHF postgraduate research scholarships, and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute Bright Sparks scholarship. In particular he was the principal investigator of 3 major clinical trials (CAPLA, Hi-Lo HEAT and STALL HFpEF). He has been recognised for his outstanding achievements in clinical research by being awarded 18 young investigator awards to date, including the prestigious awards of Eric N. Prystowsky Fellow Clinical Researcher Award 2023, Paul Korner Medal for Outstanding PhD Achievements 2021, back to back Young Investigator Award (top conference prize) at the 14 th and 15th Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Congress (Suzhou 2021, Singapore 2022), Noel and Imelda Foster Prize for Cardiovascular Research 2022, and the Heart Failure Prize, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand ASM 2022. David is multi-lingual and speaks fluent Mandarin and Malay/ Indonesian. Beyond work, he is actively involved in various ministries at his local church including co-leader of the Young
Adults Fellowship, and Worship Team Leader.
